Redbox vs. Online Movie Rentals

McDonald's recently released the new Redbox Kiosks, what a great idea. Redbox kiosks offer DVD rentals for $1.00 per day, per movie and you can return it to any other redbox location. This looked to be very appealing to me at first. I thought it was a great idea and thought McDonalds was doing great, offering this to their customers. After thinking about it for a while, I started to believe that it was just a great marketing tool to get customers in to buy the Big Mac or multiple other McDonald's favorites. McDonald's is not trying to get into the #1 spot as the DVD rental store, they are able to use the Redbox as a way to bring customers to their restaurant. I know if I was renting from the Redbox, I would have to pick up one of their tasty treats. Who goes all the way to McDonald's and doesn't pick up at least a Hamburger or chicken nugget?

McDonald's has come up with a super marketing technique. You really have to give them a round of applause for this one. Whoever thought that they would come up with something better than Monopoly? I know I used to love to play the McDonald's Monopoly game every year in the hopes to get one of their big prizes and I am sure that there are many others out there that feel the same way. However, now they are getting more attention than ever with these Redbox DVD Rental Kiosks, I have heard at least 10 people this week alone speaking about the Redbox and how cheap and convenient it is. I asked a few of the people I heard talking about it if they buy food while they are getting a movie, of course all of them said they did.

As far as convenience, the Redbox solution could be that, that is if you plan on going to McDonald's everyday. That in return could get some pounds on you and still you are burning that gas to get there. Everyone knows how costly gas is getting now days. So if you add up the movie, Big Mac meal, and gas round trip, that one movie costs you around $10, which is not as great savings as you thought the Redbox solution would be.

For me I have been spoiled by the truly convenient DVDs by mail, free shipping both ways and I can keep them as long as I like with no late fees. I feel that is truly convenience, however I leave it to you to try it out to see if it is right for you. Please view all of the different Free Trial Offers to see which is the right one for you.
